How the Golf Weather Index works
Every hour is scored 0–100 by blending eight weather factors that actually affect a round of golf, with air quality shown alongside as an advisory. Higher is better.
Temperature
Ideal 65–78°F. Cold below 45°F and heat above 90°F drop the score fast.
Wind Speed
Calm is best. Big penalty above 15 mph, brutal above 25 — irons get sketchy.
Wind Direction
Shown as compass + arrow so you can plan holes into and downwind.
Dew Point
Above 65°F feels muggy; above 72°F is oppressive. Ball flight and grip suffer.
Humidity
Mild penalty above 70% — makes heat feel worse and softens greens.
Precipitation
Chance and intensity of rain. Heavy penalty — nobody wants a soaked scorecard.
Cloud Cover
A little cloud cover is ideal — full overcast dims the day slightly.
UV Index
Advisory factor. Extreme UV nudges the score down and reminds you to reapply.
Air Quality
US AQI shown for context. Above 100 is Moderate; above 150 is Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Consider a mask or shorter round when smoky.

Where does the weather data come from?
Open-Meteo, a free, high-quality forecast API that aggregates the world's leading weather models. No sign-up required.
Is the score personalized?
Not yet — GWI uses a fixed formula tuned for a typical amateur golfer. A future version could weight things differently for junior/senior play, walkers vs. carts, and preferred temperatures.
Can I check tomorrow?
Yes. The hourly strip shows the next 36 hours so you can see today and tomorrow at a glance. The "Best windows" section highlights the top three hours.
Does it know real course conditions?
No — GWI is a weather score, not a course-conditions report. Frost delays, cart-path-only rules, and course closures still require a call to the pro shop.
